New interim release

by Mads Kristensen 4. April 2007 06:00

A lot of people have reported issues and inconveniences with the BlogEngine since the first release two days ago. I’ve fixed almost all of them and improved other things as well. These bug reports have made me realize two important things about the project:

1. There are still bugs
2. I have to fix them ASAP

First of all, I’ve fixed the bugs and made a new version (1.01) available for download. Get it here.

Second of all, the project needs a roadmap – a roadmap of features and bug fixes. I’ll get started on a detailed map that will be released after Easter when the BlogEngine.NET will have its own website. In the meanwhile I’m setting May 1st to be the deadline for the zero bug bounce and the completion of all promised features such as the best blog search on the planet.

Further more, the new dedicated website will have full documentation of the code and API’s for the engine. No date on that one yet, but before June 1st.

After listening to feedback and requests during the next 3-4 months followed by a series of interim releases, version 2.0 will be released before the end of the year.

This is the preliminary roadmap.

Maybe not a comment which belongs here... Are you doing all of this outside your normal full time job?
I tried already once to start with a project outside of my normal job, but had to give up. How many hours a day are you 'working' besides your full time job?

Mads,

First off, very nice product. I'd been perusing the .net blogging engines just waiting for something as nice as yours to come along. Great job!

Where do bug reports / potential issues go?

I noticed that the membership info is not re-read unless you stop the webserver in debug mode - so if you remove a user they dont get removed from the author list on the sidebar.

Let me know if there is a better place to post this.

Hey there!

I'd just like to say that it's great that you're doing this whole dev process fairly openly. Often, developers (even open source ones) do irregular blog updates, but there's always at least one a week from just you!

Anyway, is there an SVN repository that I can access for interim builds for both testing and general curiosity?

Thanks!

Hi I eally like this blog engine I've taken a look at the code and noticed that this is simple enough for even the most novice developer to adopt to their needs (if that's authorized ofcourse). I would however plug in some patterns especially for the datalayer, don't like using xml files as storage temples Smile. If you want I believe I've got a .net implementation (open source) of a metablog api somewhere and can look that up for you. Just let me know!

Tweezz, this project is something I do in my spare time. I have a fulltime job, so it can be difficult to give it the hours I would like to. The last 2 weeks I've spend many hours and entire weekends on the project, but not more than I still did a lot of other things. It's not a burden yet.

Dan and Dave, for the time being all bug reports can be sent either by mail or as a comment. I'm looking for a place to put the code for everbody to look at - something like SourceForge. I want to make it as open as possible.

Filip, I would really appreciate it if you could send me the metablog api code. Thank you very much.
