BlogEngine.NET goes mainstream

Aug 9, 2007

After more than two months of e-mailing – then vacation and then some more e-mailing – it finally happened. The open source BlogEngine.NET project made it to the official ASP.NET website where it has been accepted as a starter kit. It is also featured on the Community Projects section of the site along with other cool projects.

This is indeed a great day for the BlogEngine.NET team and community and I feel damn proud about it too. What it means is that BlogEngine.NET made it to the mainstream ASP.NET audience and that the community now will grow much faster then expected, which is a good thing of course.

Hopefully it means that even more people will create and share their themes, extensions and controls along with tips, tricks and how-to’s. This will strengthen the product and the community even further. I cross my fingers.

This is fantastic news, Mads.  I tip my hats off to each and every individual who played a role in this project.  It really turned out wonderfully.  And you SHOULD feel damn proud for what you have started.  Your efforts are benefitting so many people every day, and we both know it can only grow to be bigger an better.  You're a legend in my book!  CONGRATS!

Congratulations. Seems like you gained more popularity in 3 months than Subtext in 2 years.
Well done.

Mads,

I tried out BlogEngine briefly and really loved it (a few months ago).  It has evolved much since then and I was really excited when I stumbled upon it on the ASP.NET website.  Congratulations!

Hi Mads,

I got to know about this when I visited asp.net website today morning and was so happy and excited to see your baby on the homepage featuring as new member in asp.net starter kits.Congratulations for this. Another important update [from my side] I wish to share with you is, I'm planning to take this BlogEngine to people around me who mainly belong to acedemics. I've also prepared a road-map for the project which I wish to share with you in near future. It'd be a public portal allowing people to register for their free blog. Each user will have its own sub-domain on the portal which will host an instance of BlogEngine for that user[and sub-domain] backed by XML.

What do you think of this ? Do let me know your thoughts on this.

Thanks.

Hey. I found it on the asp.net page, I've been looking to start blogging for quite a long time but I haven't had time to write anything from the ground up(my personal projects are horrible examples of feature creep) but I still wanted something I could extend. I started my foray into the code before even running the project, and I absolutely loved it. I threw my blog up in about an hour after switching to the sql provider, and so far it's working great. To get to the point, I'd just like to say THANK YOU for such a great project, and my absolutely best wishes on its continued success; who knows, I might even contribute something in the future. ;D

If you'd like to be able to easily post to BE without requiring usage of a separate product or extension, I've written a blog post on how to enable one-click publishing via a bookmarklet. Check it out at www.bradygaster.com/.../...-to-BE-Bookmarklet.aspx.

Mads -

I fully appreciate your work on this project. It is a great resource for those of us new to .Net 2.0+ framework to be able to utilize and inspect the codebase for greater understanding of solid architecture in that space.

Keep it up!

- Nate
